India: Passenger bus accident kills at least 30 in Himachal Pradesh

At least thirty people were confirmed killed after a deadly bus accident in northern India, local media reported on Wednesday. The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon at around 4 p.m. local time when the passenger bus was driving through the Chandigarh-Manali highway in Himachal Pradesh, the mountainous state of northern India.
After the driver lost control, the bus ended up submerging in Beas River in the state`s Mandi district, which has been overflowing in recent days due to the melting snow from the mountains. The ill-fated bus was traveling from Ani to Kullu. According to the Times of India, at least 30 people were killed in the accident, but higher death tolls of up to 35 were reported by different media outlets. Authorities deployed a number of river rafts to help in the search-and-rescue operations. The bodies of the victims were being transported to the Regional Hospital Kullu.
