The French President Hollande welcomes the ratification of the Paris Agreement by India, on this symbolic day marking the anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. This decision, after that of European environment ministers, brings us closer to the entry into force of the Paris Agreement by the end of the year. Francois Hollande said that India has played a leading role in the adoption of this agreement, in December 2015. It has also launched, with France, the International Solar Alliance, which will contribute to achieving the objectives of the Agreement of Paris by facilitating access to solar energy.“ French President Hollande declared. ----------------------------------------------------- To enter into force, the agreement reached in Paris in December 2015 must be ratified by at least 55 countries accounting for 55% of greenhouse gas emissions. A threshold is now at hand. With India and its approximately 4% of global emissions, a total of 62 countries representing nearly 52% of global emissions have ratified the agreement. China and the United States, the two most polluting countries, helped to speed up the process by ratifying the text early September." French President Hollande stated. Source Elysee
