Sanchez: the Socialist Party is the first force of the left in Spain

USPA NEWS - Secretary General and candidate of the Socialist Party (PSOE its acronym in Spanish), Pedro Sanchez, appeared before the press shortly before midnight, when the results of the legislative held in Spain were already definitive.

Pedro Sanchez recognized the indisputable victory of the Conservative Popular Party, which did not last Dec. 20, 2015, and revealed that he had called the acting President of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, to congratulate him on his victory. After he underlined the success of staying as first party of the left against the attacks of the Communists and the extreme left. "Despite the extraordinary difficulties we had to overcome, despite the omens that predicted its demise, the Socialist Party has once again reaffirmed its status as an alternative to the Government. He did it in December and has done now facing a coalition of 20 parties allied with the sole aim of defeating the Socialist Party," said the leader of the PSOE.

Disappointed, he blamed the victory of the Popular Party to the extreme left. "The intransigence and self-interest above the interest of the left" have been the cause of the progress of the Popular Party, he added, blaming the need for the elections to the extreme left who did not want him support in the investiture session of the previous legislature. Pedro Sanchez did not hide his disappointment at the poor results reaped by his party. "I'm not satisfied, but we are the first political force of the left," he said.

"This is the party of the left reference for millions of Spaniards," defended Pedro Sanchez. "This is the party that has maintained its commitment to Spain, the party that Spain modernized and integrated into Europe," he added to reaffirm the Socialist commitment to the unity of Spain. "It is the unqualified Socialist Party, a single party with a single project for Spain," he said. Regarding the loss of five deputies, he said: "I can assure that the Socialist Party will make these results serve the general interest of all Spaniards."
