USPA News -
At least thirteen people were shot dead after a gunman went on a shooting spree in a Serbian village, local media reported Tuesday. The incident occurred in the village of Velika Ivanca, located south of Belgrade, the country`s capital, according to Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic, who spoke with B92, a local TV and radio broadcaster.
The gunman was identified as Ljubisa Bogdanovic, 60, who with a licensed CZ-88 handgun allegedly killed six men, six women, and a two-year-old child while they were sleeping. The thirteen fatal victims were Bogdanovic`s relatives and lived in nearby houses. As police approached the site of the attack, Bogdanovic tried to shoot and kill his wife and himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Nonetheless, both survived and the gunman is reported in critical condition. Bogdanovic was a veteran of the Croatian war in 1991. Following the violent incident, the government of Serbia declared Wednesday as a day of mourning. In 2007, a gunman killed nine people at a village in eastern Serbia. However, similar incidents are not common in the country.
