Indigenous Women of the Americas Protecting Mother Earth are presenting a special dynamic afternoon event to present their struggles and Climate Change Solutions, at the United Nations Church Center in New York City on Thursday May 12, 2016. The event is co-hosted by WECAN, Amazon Watch and the Indigenous Environmental Network A DYNAMIC SPECIAL EVENT AT UNITED NATIONS CHURCH CENTER------------------------------------------------------- This public event will be held in parallel to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues happening in New York at this time, with the expressed purpose of ensuring that the vital voices of Indigenous women leaders are heard by the public, media and government representatives during the formal UN process.---------------------------------------------------------- Presenters of North and South America will speak out against the environmentally and socially destructive activities and policies threatening their homelands, and present the visions and strategies with which they are working to shape a healthy and equitable future for their communities and the Earth. Their diverse struggles and solutions will be contextualized within a frame of rapid climate change, health issues, biologic and cultural diversity loss, and destructive economic frameworks - demonstrating just why honoring Indigenous rights and knowledge is so essential for the survival and prosperity of us all.
