Indonesia: 8 illegal immigrants killed at detention center clash

At least eight Burmese illegal immigrants were killed on Friday after a clash broke out in Indonesia`s Sumatra island, local authorities said Friday. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. local time at the immigration detention center in Belawan, located in the province of North Sumatra.
Brigadier General Boy Rafli Amar, the National Police public information bureau chief, confirmed the deaths of eight people, Antara news agency reported. Clashes reportedly broke out among Buddhists and Muslims, but few details were immediately available. Rafli Amar said authorities had launched investigations, as the bodies of the deadly victims were taken to the Pirngadi hospital in Medan, the provincial capital of North Sumatra.
