The Catalan Parliament passes a motion of breaking with Spain

The regional Parliament of Catalonia (Northeastern Spain) approved Thursday by 71 votes in favor and 52 against a motion to ratify the independence declaration of November 9, 2015 and urges the Catalan Government to begin the process of independence.
71 favorable votes were cast by the deputies of Junts pel Si (JxS) and the anarchist coalition CUP, while the conservative Popular Party, the Socialist Party and Citizens voted against. The Catalan brand of United Left not intervene in the vote. The approved text reiterates the basic objectives of the breakaway declaration of November 9, 2015, except for two points considered controversial: the urging Catalan public office to disobey the Spanish laws and rejecting the Catalan regional Police attend requirements of Spanish judges.
The declaration of November 9, 2015 established "solemnly start the process of creating independent Catalan State as a republic" and proclaiming that the regional Parliament of Catalonia "not be subject to the decisions of the Constitutional Court" and urged the regional Government of Catalonia to "meet only the standards or mandates in this House." The Constitutional Court suspended the breakaway resolution on December 1, following an appeal by the Spanish Government.
