JEAN MARC AYRAULT FRENCH MFA URGES NORTH KOREA TO RESPECT THE 2270 RESOLUTION
FOR A POSITIVE WAY TO PEACE

French Foreign Affairs Minister urges North Korea to respect the resolution 2270 for a positive way to peace. This declaration comes after the unanimous adoption of 2270 by Un Security Council, further the nuclear test of January 6 and the ballistic firing of 7 February by North Korea.
Unanimously adopting resolution 2270 (2016), the 15-member Council also condemned the Democratic People´s Republic of Korea launch of 7 February 2016, using ballistic missile technology, and demanded that it comply immediately with its international obligations. Its previous actions on the subject included the adoption of resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013) and 2094 (2013). By this resolution, the Council decided that all States should inspect cargo within or transiting through their territory “” including airports, sea ports and free trade zones “” that was destined for or originating from the Democratic People´s Republic of Korea. It also decided that Member States should prohibit that country´s nationals and those in their own territories from leasing or chartering their flagged vessels and aircraft to it, or providing it with crew services. The prohibition should apply also to any designated individuals or entities assisting in the evasion of sanctions or violation of all related resolutions.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STATEMENT OF JEAN MARC AYRAULT REGARDING 2270 RESOLUTION ------------------------------------------------
"I welcome the unanimous adoption by the UN Security Council of resolution 2270 which represents significant strengthening of the sanctions regime imposed on North Korea. This is a firm and determined response from the international community to irresponsible and unacceptable provocations of this country. France had firmly condemned the nuclear test of January 6 and the ballistic firing of 7 February. I call again on North Korea to immediately comply with its international obligations and to carry the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of its nuclear and missile programs. I also call to resume the path of dialogue and to contribute positively to finally peace and security on the Korean peninsula and in the region." Jean Marc Ayrault stated.
