The Parliamentary Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, Pascal Terrasse (MP, France), expressed its deep concern at the deteriorating situation in Burundi. He strongly condemns the upsurge in violence and violations of human rights and calls on all actors.
The Parliamentary Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, Pascal Terrasse (MP, France), expressed its deep concern at the deteriorating situation in Burundi. He strongly condemns the upsurge in violence and violations of human rights and calls on all actors o engage in the path of an open and inclusive dialogue, a key criterion for a calming of the situation in Burundi. He also calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint.-------------------------------------
"I am extremely shocked by the Community connotation hate speech that have been conveyed in recent weeks by a number of political actors. The instrumentalisation of ethnic and community issues have no place in 21st century Africa and rhetoric of this type must be denounced, "said Parliamentary Secretary General. The Secretary-General calls on the Burundian parliamentary aÌ actors to show responsibility and prioritize the legitimate aspirations of the Burundian people al peace aÌ democracy and development.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the crisis of democracy and serious violations of human rights in the country, the parliament of Burundi is currently under observation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie. This measure, which was imposed in July 2015 on the occasion of the 41st Session of the APF, was accompanied by any institutional provision suspending cooperation with the Parliament of Burundi and preventing Burundian Parliament to hold a position of responsibility within of the Assembly.
