Institutional statement of the Spanish Government

USPA NEWS - "Two parliamentary groups together did not obtain the majority of votes in the last elections to the Catalan Parliament presented a proposal contrary to the Constitution, laws, the feeling of the majority of Catalans and the democratic will of the Spanish resolution.

This initiative can only be described as an act of provocation by those who seek to break laws, is this simply because they know that the law is not on his side. The Government guarantees chair and ensure that they will not achieve any of its objectives and that this proposed resolution, if approved by the Parliament of Catalonia, will not take even one of its effects.

The state will not renounce the use of all political and legal mechanisms in defense of the sovereignty of the Spanish people and the general interest of Spain, attributed the Constitution and laws. Those who want to separate and divide Catalonia of Spain must know that they will not do and will not do so because they are against the Catalans and most of all Spaniards. They have to face the law and a government willing to enforce it.

I want to send a message of reassurance to all Spaniards and especially Catalans. While I am Prime Minister, Spain will remain a nation of free and equal citizens. Justice will prevail over injustice and all, I repeat, will all be subject to the law and court decisions. I always have, always understood politics from dialogue and from moderation, but the defense of my country, the sovereignty of the Spanish people, democracy for which we have worked and the harmonious coexistence and solidarity among all the peoples of Spain will defend and uphold firmly, decisively and with the tools that gives us the law. And I will do so because it is my responsibility as Prime Minister and my conviction as Spanish."
