The 70th anniversary celebration of the United Nations was hosted on the University of Texas at Austin campus by Bako Ambianda in collaboration with other organisations which was aims at honoring the historic breadth of the UN Organization´s developments.
Despite it was raining, students still came out to celebrate and reflects on the work's of the United Nations (UN) and its family of specialized agencies.The UN Organization´s development, security and human rights work, and ultimately, unite the international community in common cause to enable a strong UN to realize a better world.
During the event. Bako Ambianda highlight the three pillars of United Nations and the works of the United Nations Foundation which supports the UN and strengthens US-UN relations through public education, advocacy, and outreach. The Foundation also supports UN efforts financially through grant making and by building innovative public-private partnerships with corporations, NGO´s, foundations, and individuals.
Questions were asked to the audiences and the people who answered it correctly won prices. Some questions asked were;
How was the term “United Nations“ conceive? It was created by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He first used this term in the Declaration of the United Nations of January 1, 1942 during World War II where representatives from 26 nations came together and pledged that their governments would continue to cooperate with each other to fight the Axis Powers.
Who can clearly describe United Nations? The UN is an international organization with the goals as stated in the United Nations Charter to “maintain international peace and security“, “develop friendly relations among nations“, “to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems“, and “be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends“.
Give the 6 main bodies that the United Nations is made up of? The UN is made up of 6 different main bodies: the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat.
Name the 6 official languages of the United Nations? The official languages of the UN are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Delegates may speak any one of these official languages and they are translated simultaneously in the other official languages. Most UN documents are translated in these 6 official languages as well.
Who lead the team of designers who designed the UN has a logo and flag in 1945? A team of designer led by Oliver Lincoln Lundquist designed the original UN logo during the United Nations Conference on International Organization in 1945 and it was approved on December 7, 1946.
Clearly described the UN Logo? The design is “a map of the world representing an azimuthal equidistant projection centered on the North Pole, inscribed in a wreath consisting of crossed conventionalized branches of the olive tree, in gold on a field of smoke-blue with all water areas in white. The projection of the map extends to 60 degrees south latitude, and includes five concentric circles“. The UN flag has the UN logo in white on a light blue field.
What is the mandate of the General Assembly? The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policy making and representative organ of the United Nations. Comprising all Members of the United Nations, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter. The Assembly meets in regular session intensively from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.

Seventy years ago, 50 nations came together in San Francisco, USA, to create a new organization for peace, prosperity and human rights -- the United Nations. The 70th Anniversary was an opportunity to reflect and look back on the UN´s history and take stock of its enduring achievements. It was a day devoted to making known to peoples of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations Organization. The event was organized by Bako Ambianda in collaboration with UT Sciences Toastmaster and Global Attain Advancement. Supported by United Nations Foundation and Keronga Urwinyo Investment (KUI).
