Spanish conservatives boast of achievements with a view to the legislatives

USPA NEWS - Two months before the legislatives to be held in Spain on December 20, the conservative Popular Party, that supports the Government of Mariano Rajoy, took stock of his parliamentary activity and boast his achievements.

It was at a meeting in the Lower House of Spanish Parliament, attended by all deputies and senators of the PP. And they did it in a day marked by two events that have shaken the unity of the party: the resignation of the president of the Basque conservatives, Arantza Quiroga, and an interview given by the Minister of Economy, Cristobal Montoro, to the newspaper El Mundo. Basque leader resigned after proposing a dialogue in the regional Parliament in Sortu involving representatives of the separatist coalition supporting the terrorist organization ETA. The proposal received a barrage of criticism from the PP and Quiroga resigned.

The interview of Minister of Economy, Cristobal Montoro, to the newspaper El Mundo raised hackles within the Popular Party. Although later he clarified that the minister was not referring to anyone in particular and only intended to give a warning to the party, in that conversation he spoke of some peers who "feel ashamed to be the PP." Former president of the PP and the Government Jose Maria Aznar to stop comment and give advice to the Government also said. "Stay out, we are operating!," he said.

With these two records, the meeting of the Parliamentary Group of the PP was an occasion to assert the Government's achievements with a view to the legislative elections. The meeting was closed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, who insisted on claiming that the Parliamentary Group has been able to "hold, defend and propose". Also economic, Saenz de Santamaria said that the European Commission has not made an assessment of the budgets of 2016 very different from that made the 2014 and 2015. The PP calls for a clear victory in the polls to consolidate the economic recovery. With that target will plan the campaign for the legislative elections of December 20.
