Rajoy said that Spain will fulfill the deficit target

USPA NEWS - Upon arrival in New York, where he intervenes with the Security Council of the UN, the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, spoke Tuesday about the forecasts of the European Commission about Spain for next year.

Rajoy said that if the deficit limit set will be fulfilled: "We are calm because Spain has recovered economic activity," said Spanish Prime Minister. In response to questions from journalists, Rajoy noted the warnings from the European Commission on the Spanish public accounts for 2016. In this regard, he said that "Spain will not breach the deficit."

The Spanish Prime Minister said that "economic activity has picked Spain, Spain is recovering employment and all that makes the collection is increasing and therefore we have to reach and meet the deficit." Therefore, "I am very calm, and the Spanish too, we will fulfill the deficit." Rajoy recalled that since he is the head of Government, "we have always met the deficit," and added that "probably" the European Commission intended "in other times when we deviated to three points."

Also, Mariano Rajoy said that this year, the Spanish economy will grow "more than double" to the big European economies. According to forecasts from the International Monetary Fund, Europe will grow 1.5% this year; Spain, however, will come to 3.1%. The Spanish Prime Minister also recalled that Spain is the EU country that creates more jobs, "I think that the next four years, if we do not change policy, we can create two million jobs, 500,000 every year."

Debate in the Security Council

The Spanish Prime Minister has traveled to New York to preside over the open debate 'Women, Peace and Security' which begins Tuesday in the framework of the Spanish presidency of the Security Council of United Nations. It is intended to approve an update of resolution 1325 (2000), whose main objective is "to protect women in conflict situations and also give them a role or try to have a more important role in preventing and solving them." According to the president, more than one hundred countries have asked to speak in the debate, so it is expected that all is done "in a reasonable manner" and "there is approval."

Also, Rajoy says Spain's priorities as a member of the Security Council of the United Nations during the years 2015 and 2016. First, the role of victims in the fight against terrorism. In this sense, he added, it highlights the ceremony to be held on 21 October in New York, with the participation of victims in several countries (Spanish, Americans, the DAESH or Boko Haram).

The second priority for Spain, according to Rajoy, focuses on humanitarian issues, especially those related to Syria: "We want to give special attention to be allowed to have a humanitarian corridor through which to help people and schooling children," he said. Middle East is the third priority setting Spain and in fourth place, improving the functioning and decision-making within the Security Council itself of the UN.
