FRANCE AND THE NETHERLANDS HAVE ACQUIRED JOINTLY A PAIR OF REMBRANDT PAINTINGS

French Minister of Culture, Fleur Pellerin and Jet Bussemaker, Dutch Minister of Culture are pleased to announce that France and the Netherlands will conclude the joint acquisition of the pair of paintings by Rembrandt , Marten Portrait of Soolmans and portrait Oopjen Coppit, wife of Marten Soolmans
Fleur Pellerin and Jet Bussemaker worked together for several months to get that agreement, pursuant to which the tables are always presented together, alternating the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum. The owners have indicated their agreement to this joint sale. The two ministers warmly thank them. French Minister Fleur Pellerin and Jet Bussemaker welcome this new solution, which meets the common cultural and political objective is that they were set: keep two canvases on European soil and present them to the greatest number, in two of the beautiful and great museums of the world. The joint acquisition of this priceless work of two masterpieces will strengthen the partnership between the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre, and reflects the shared desire of both countries to further deepen their rich cultural cooperation. This operation will benefit from the exceptional patronage of the Bank of France for 80 million euros for the acquisition of the two portraits. The proposal, which was submitted to the owners, is an extension of the mail that Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, and Ms Jet Bussemaker, his Dutch counterpart, signed July 14, 2015 to the attention owners of the two portraits. The two ministers proposed that the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum make every purchase a table so that the pendants are presented together, alternating in both museums.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Through this sponsorship and the action supported by the French authorities in connection with their Dutch partners, Fleur Pellerin wishes the next confirmation of this double acquisition for the benefit of the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum, which is an innovative solution will strengthen cultural cooperation between France and the Netherlands. This joint acquisition would indeed be the result of the shared commitment of both Governments to maintain the paintings on European soil and present in these two major museums, visitors from around the world.
