Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Barack Obama finally met face-to-face, for the fist time in ten months, at the United Nations General Assembly. The crucial points to 'discuss' would be obviously Syria and Ukraine. Underscoring their deep differences, they couln't agree on the purpose of the meeting, which occured aside the United Nations General Assembly.

Yet, no one in Washington know exactly what the Russian intentions are. Moscow wanted such meeting because it may open the door to a broader engagement between Russia and the United States, which might even lead to a 'reset' of the relationship. Moscow would like to ease tensions with Western Europe but its priority is to draw Washington into a constructive engagement. The U.S. is the superpower and in the ultimate analysis, it lays down the law for the West as a whole.
They first met in 2009, when Vladimir Putin was Prime Minister. It was like all the professional courtesy cannot make look like they enjoyed each other's company. This time, the two Presidents met in a second floor conference room at the United Nations Headquarters. The aim must have been to discern each others' strategies after a two-year freeze.
After the meeting, the senior U.S. Officials said 'Their objectives are to go after ISIL and to support the government.' Also, it was said 'I think the Russians certainly understood the importance of there being a political resolution in Syria and there being a process that pursues a political resolution.'

An official said anonymously 'I think there was a shared desire to figure out a way in chich we can adress the situation in Syria' and 'This is not a situation where either one of them was seeking to score points in a meeting.' (according to CNN)
