USPA NEWS - Alexander Dobrindt Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure welcomed his colleges during the 66.IAA in front of the“ Hotel Frankfurter Hof“.
At the Press Conference, he described Germany as a reliable partner...
...and continuing his strategy in creating the conditions for automated driving so that, in the future, motorists will reach their destination even more safely, more comfortably and in a more resource efficient manner. At the same time, this will strengthen Germany as a hub of innovation. Our country is already the world leader in the development of automated driving, Dobrindt said.“ For the implementation of this project we give ourselves ten years but I think we`ll make it sooner“.

What is Automated Driving? In very general terms, the principal characteristic of automated driving systems is that they take over the entire task of driving from the driver in very specific situations or for a limited period of time, i.e. both the lateral control (change in the vehicle's position on the road) and the longitudinal control (speed regulation) of the vehicle. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is ensuring that all the key players cooperate and is paving the way for solutions that are acceptable to all sectors of society.
Classification of automated driving functions:
Assisted driving:
The preliminary stage of automated driving. The driver permanently performs either lateral or longitudinal control. The other task is performed by the system within certain limits. The driver has to constantly monitor the system and
Automated Driving:
Partially automated driving functions: the system performs both lateral and longitudinal control of the vehicle for a certain period of time or in specific situations. The driver still has to constantly monitor the system and be ready to assume full control of the vehicle at any time. One example is the aforementioned traffic jam assist.

Highly automated driving functions: the system performs both lateral and longitudinal control of the vehicle for a certain period of time or in specific situations. The driver no longer needs to constantly monitoring the system. There is a sufficient time buffer before they have to assume the driving task themselves. In other words, the system gives the driver advance warning.
Fully automated driving functions: the system performs both lateral and longitudinal control of the vehicle in a defined scenario. The driver does not need to monitor the system. The system is able to establish a minimal risk condition in all situations.
Autonomous driving ("driverless vehicles"): The highest level of automation. The system assumes full control of the vehicle from start to finish. In this case, all persons travelling in the vehicle are passengers.

Progressive
Automated driving is the evolution of road safety systems. It will make it possible to enhance safety on German roads and to further reduction the number and severity of accidents in the future.
Fascinating
Automated driving is a fascinating emerging technology, which offers new chances to Germany as a competitive site for economic activity.
IT-Security
Automated driving will guarantee IT security and digital sovereignty. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is championing IT security standards and data protection requirements that will be international benchmarks.
Ecological
Automated and connected driving will protect the environment and enhance motorists' driving experience despite rising traffic volumes. It will improve the flow of traffic and open up new ways of reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
