Actors Sandra Bullock and George Clooney revealed recently that they played integral roles in making Sandra Bullock the leading lady of a film written for a man. “Our Brand Is Crisis“ is based on a documentary of the same name, which chronicled the fight for the presidency Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada and socialist Evo Morales. The story is about a fiery political strategist behind a great presidential election upset in Bolivia in 2002.
The role, loosely based on real-life political consultant James Carville, was written for a man to play. Sandra Bullock is one of a handful of top actresses playing gender-switched roles in upcoming movies. Emily Blunt´s FBI agent in Sicario, out Sept. 18, was originally conceived for a man, as was Julia Roberts´ part in the forthcoming Secret in Their Eyes.
Apparently, very little of Peter Straughan´s script was altered to make room for Bullock. “The character is basically the same, other than the sex,“ Bullock told the press after the film's premiere, joking that it was “a role George could have played, or maybe I could have played it better.“
