Native of Marseille in south of France, Georges de Paris went to America in the late 1950s, ending homeless and resurrecting to make suits for Presidents such as Lyndon Johnson , Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and finally Barack Obama. He became American citizen in 1969. He passed away in a hospice in Arlington, Virginia, after a long illness. He had a tailor shop just a few block from the White House, and always dressed impeccably.
Georges de Paris also made suits for French politicians such as Nicolas Sarkozy and Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The envy of tayloring came when he was hired as a cutter by a French-Canadian tailor. He rented a small room when he was kicked out by his American girlfriend and spent some times in the street. His savings served him to buy a sewing machine to start his own business.
Meeting Otto Passman, representative of Louisiana, helped him to later on be introduced to Lyndon Johnson, then Vice President. Of all Presidents he preferred Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. He found the least pleasant was Bill Clinton. Surprisingly, Georges de Paris said about Richard Nixon "was cordial. He always asked for news of my family and whether I liked the United states". Talking about Gerald Ford, he said "teased me about my small size by asking me whether I played on an American football team."
