A Three Alarm Blaze for Maryland Republicans

USPA NEWS - Anne Arundel County is traditionally a source of pride for Maryland Republicans. They occupy the County Executive's Office, they hold a majority on the County Council, have two of the four County seats in the Maryland Senate, and eight of the twelve seats in the House of Delegates.

When the Celebration Turns to Sorrow

By any measure, it would seem that Anne Arundel County voters, Republicans in particular, had suffered their share of embarrassment as Delegate Don Dwyrer (R-31) was charged in late December with piloting an unregistered power boat on the Magothy River while significantly impaired by alcohol. Then, last month's conviction of County Executive John R. Leopold (R-Pasadena) on two counts of criminal misconduct in office, which forced him to resign.

Tuesday, the Maryland House of Delegates voted overwhelmingly, 127-3-1 to formally reprimand Severna Park Delegate Tony McConkey after the General Assembly's ethics committee found that he failed to disclose a conflict of interest.

5 weeks into 2013, What should County voters expect next?

On Thursday, February 21, the County Council will hold a special meeting to pick the new County Executive for Anne Arundel County. Respondents in a recent online poll conducted by the Annapolis Capital have stated overwhelmingly that above government, political, or business experience, they want their Next County Executive to possess high morals, ethics, and character.

It is hard to say who will become the next County Executive in Anne Arundel County, or who will be the next politician to give us another big story, but what is clear, is that voters have had enough, and are tired of placing their trust in elected officials only to have it betrayed.

These three incidents should be a wake-up call for Maryland Republicans and elected officials throughout the State.

When you think you are above the law, watch out, because your fall from self appointed godliness is coming, and it's going to be a tough and painful landing.
