USPA NEWS - The Voting Section enforces the civil provisions of federal laws that protect the right to vote, including the Voting Rights Act, the Uniformed&Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, the Help America Vote Act and the Civil Rights Acts. THE VOTING RIGHT ACT IS A CIVIL RIGHT REGARDLESS COLOUR OR RACE--------------------------------------------- The Voting Rights Act, signed by President Johnson fifty years ago today, codifies the 15th Amendment's permanent guarantee that, throughout the nation, no person shall be denied the right to vote on account of race or color. Generally considered the most successful piece of civil rights legislation ever adopted by the United States Congress, the U.S. Department of Justice´s Civil Rights Division is proud to play a vital role in enforcing the Voting Rights Act and protecting the right to vote.
