IMPRESSIONNIST AND MODERN / POST-WAR & CONTEMPORARY REACHES AUCTION RECORDS----------------- For the first time, the two sales were united by an artistic journey combining a selection of works of the entire twentieth century. This conversation between artists, between the works, as could a collector or an expert, was entitled Modernity: A Dialogue. On 1 and 2 June 2015, Artcurial innovated for this summer week dedicated to impressionist art, modern and contemporary. The week began with the Post-War & Contemporary Art on Monday, June 1st. The sale totalled € 6,281,270 / $ 6,892,438, exceeding its overall estimate, while 80% of lots found buyers. Proof of the relevance of the choice of the proposed works, Artcurial achieves 5 records, including 4 world records at auction and one European record at auction. On 2 June, the week continued back in time with the sale Impressionist & Modern. It totals € 4,664,500 / $ 5,130,950, with 64% of lots sold. The rare collage by Max Ernst (lot 8), illustrating the collection of Paul Eluard Rehearsals (preferred book of the author), takes off from the start of the sale at € 559,800 / $ 615,780, quadrupling its estimate, and setting a new world record for a collage by Max Ernst at auction. TOP LOT: Lot 20: Chu Teh-Chun, Untitled, 1956, Oil on canvas, 100 x 100 cm, fees awarded € 510,200 / $ 559,945 (estimate: 250 000-350 € 000).
