The sister of the King of Spain lost its title of Duchess

USPA NEWS - The King of Spain, Felipe VI, has revoked the right of her sister Cristina de Borbon to use the title of Duchess of Palma de Mallorca, which was granted by the former monarch, Juan Carlos I, as a gift for his marriage to ex international handball player Inaki Urdangarin.

The Official Gazette published Friday a Royal Decree signed by the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, and sanctioned by King Philip VI, for which he is dispossessed of the title of Duchess of Palma de Mallorca Cristina de Borbon y Grecia, sister of the reigning monarch. Cristina and Elena, the two sisters of Philip VI, had been excluded from the royal family after the coronation of the monarch who reduced the royal family itself; Queen Letizia; Princess of Asturias, Leonor of Spain; Infanta Sofia and the parents of King Juan Carlos and Sofia.

The decision to divest Cristina de Borbon of their noble titles is the result of legal problems facing the King's sister, accused in the so-called 'Noos case'. According to the investigative judge of this procedure, the husband of the Infanta Cristina, Inaki Urdangarin, and his partner Diego Torres created a dense network of companies and foundations for irregularly large amounts of money from the Spanish regional governments, using the image of the royal family and the name of the previous monarch, Juan Carlos I. The judge believes Cristina de Borbon is necessary cooperator of the suspected criminal activities of her husband and, in any case, the judge considered it proven that benefited financially from such activities.

Cristina de Borbon, her husband Inaki Urdangarin; this partner, Diego Torres, and his wife are awaiting trial on these facts and can be sentenced to long prison terms. Judge imposed bail of 2.7 million euros to Cristina and Inaki, which was appealed by the King's sister. After learning of his involvement in these events, the city of Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, asked the Government to withdraw the title of Duchess of Palma to the King's sister. So far, she has always refused to renounce the title and its dynastic rights as it is the sixth in line to the throne. Infanta Cristina was the Duchess since 1997 by the decision of his father, the then King Juan Carlos I.
