USPA NEWS - On June 1-3, Brookings will convene the 12th annual U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar. The theme is “Changing Assumptions,“ which describes the historic shifts in geopolitical realities and societal and cultural norms affecting the U.S. and Muslim-majority countries.

BROOKINGS INSTITUTION CONVENE THE 12TH ANNUAL US ISLAMIC WORLD FORUM WITH THE STATE OF QATAR--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On June 1-3, 2015, the Brookings Institution will convene the 12th annual U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar, with the generous support of the State of Qatar. The theme of this year´s Forum is “Changing Assumptions,“ which relates to historic shifts in geopolitical realities affecting the United States and Muslim-majority countries, as well as to societal and cultural norms. During its plenary sessions, speakers will address several dimensions of relations with and within a rapidly changing Muslim world, including U.S.-Middle East strategic relations, the evolving role of Iran, how to bring about political solutions to regional civil wars, strategies for advancing women´s rights amidst conflict, and conceptions of identity. The Forum will also convene working groups, which will produce papers focused on current issues confronting global Muslim communities.

AGENDA AND SESSIONS OF THE FORUM-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Forum´s plenary sessions will highlight several dimensions of relations with and within a rapidly changing Muslim world. Panelists will discuss a wide range of topics, including:“¨-Strategic priorities for the United States and the Middle East“¨-Pluralism in the Islamic world“¨-The role of Iran in the region“¨-Advancing women´s role in an unstable Middle East“¨-Ending civil wars The Forum will also convene working and action groups which will focus on current issues confronting the Islamic world. Group topics include:“¨-Here to stay and growing: Combating ISIS propaganda networks“¨-The Arab uprisings and the next generation of Islamists“¨-Strategic realignment in the Middle East“¨-Action Group: Jumpstarting community-led initiatives to counter violent extremism. Among the participants of the forum will include the following guests among others: H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior H.E. Ashraf Ghani, President Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Bruce Jones, Acting Vice President and Director, Foreign Policy, Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy, Project on International Order and Strategy.
