Spain and Egypt study creation of high-speed corridor between Cairo and Luxor

USPA NEWS - The Minister for Transport of Egypt, Hani Sayed Mohamed Dahi, and the Spanish Minister for Economic Affairs and Competitiveness, Luis de Guindos, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday in Madrid to study the creation of a high-speed railway corridor between Cairo and Luxor.

These studies could be financed under the Fund to Internationalise Business (FIEM in Spanish acronym) managed by the Ministry for Economic Affairs. The MOU signed on Thursday will be the first step in developing technological co-operation between the two countries. The Egyptian Government is greatly interested in modernising the railway system in the country and, in particular, in boosting high-speed travel. Spain, in turn, offers recognised international experience and know-how in high-speed railways.

The Governments of Spain and Egypt too have signed in the Palacio de la Moncloa an agreement of cooperation on combating crime and security on the occasion of the official visit of Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in Spain. This agreement is a strengthening of the cooperation of both countries to combat the various forms of crime, it has been signed by Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz, and the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Hassan Shoukry.

Spain and Egypt, which currently have bilateral agreements, as of today will have a tool to continue fighting, from the field of collaboration, threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, the trafficking of firearms and explosives, economic crime, cybercrime and other activities of transnational organized crime such as trafficking in human beings and illegal immigration.

To enhance cooperation in the fight against all forms of criminality, Spain and Egypt are committed to maintaining exchanges of information and cooperation in the operational activities of police investigations. This collaboration also extends to the field of scientific and technical assistance as well as to the field of vocational education. In addition, the agreement includes the establishment of a Joint Commission to meet, at technical level, in charge of each Ministry of the Interior to foster cooperation. It is, in short, of an agreement to open a new stage of enhanced partnership in order to provide a rapid and coordinated response to crime in all specialties.
