SIX OUT OF TEN OVERCOME CANCER IN ITALY

Six out of 10 cancer patients in Italy overcome the disease, but care across the country's 20 regions is inconsistent and there is "too much waste", Italian Association of Medical Oncology (IAOM) said Tuesday.
Cancer-related deaths have decreased by 20% since 1996, but on the other hand at least 15% of expensive imaging tests is useless or could have been avoided, AIOM charged. While AIOM said the key is to make sure care is consistent throughout the country, Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin said prevention is of the essence. "People must know you can be cured of cancer, and they musn't be afraid to get screened," Lorenzin said.
