UNITED NATIONS-IN 15 YEARS EARTH WILL BE FACING SERIOUS WATER SHORTAGE
THE CURRENT USAGE UNSUSTAINABLE
USPA NEWS -
The world's water reserves are diminishing rapidly and if trends continue, within 15 years the planet will face a 40% decline in the supply of fresh water, according to the United Nations.
To avoid a collapse in global water supplies, major intervention in management of water supplies is needed, said the 2015 World Water Development report, released to mark World Water Day on Sunday.
The figures cited by the UN show that water consumption, especially for agriculture and energy purposes, is unsustainable and risks making the planet thirstier still.
Between now and 2050, the demand for drinking water will increase by as much as 55% in the world and agriculture, already using 70% of fresh water available, will need to provide mankind with 60% more food.
