IRONMAN 70.3 New Orleans-With strong influences from France, Africa and the Caribbean Islands, New Orleans boasts a variety of food, culture, and architecture. Enjoy live jazz, zydeco, or blues at the Spotted Cat, House of Blues and Preservation Hall. Breathe the excitement around the race circuit!
In 2012, the 1.2-mile swim was moved to South Shore Harbor, where it follows a unique N-pattern through protected waters. The 56-mile out-and-back bike course takes competitors out of town and through the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge, and back into town. The course is flat, and has a tendency to be windy. The 13.1-mile run begins along the lakeshore, and then dips into town where it traverses Bayou St. John waterway. Athletes then run through City Park's Botanical Gardens, to finish in beautiful City Park. This race offers 30 qualifying slots for the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. Anthony Di Mauros' strong performance in 2014 earned him the Ironman Silver All World Athlete status making him eligible for one of those slots.
The IRONMAN All World Athlete (AWA) program recognizes athletes for their top three performances throughout the year. To earn AWA status IRONMAN competitors must finish within the top 10 percent of their age group. After that, athletes are classified into three levels: Bronze (top 10 percent), Silver (top five percent) and Gold (top one percent).
Here is the breakdown of Gold, Silver and Bronze AWA athletes from last year.
Gold: 2,460
Silver: 7,821
Bronze: 10,254
