The future of Spain to play in the 2015 elections
May and November, electoral months
USPA NEWS -
This year, Spanish people have two important events with urns, whose outcome depends on the political future of the country. On May 24, there will be local and regional elections for the renewal of mayors and regional Governments, and in November, the legislative scored the Government.
Although Spanish Electoral law allow delayed elections until January 2016. The legislative are unknown that they can begin to clear in May. The polls insist for months in the rise of the populist formation "Podemos", sympathizer of Venezuelan politics and the Greek candidate Alexei Tsipras, it could win the Government or, at least, to position itself as the first party of the parliamentary opposition. This fact shows that the two main Spanish political parties are in crisis: the conservative Partido Popular, worn down by the economic crisis and lack of charisma of its leader, the Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy; and the Partido Socialista (PSOE) undergoing a process of reform that weakens him.
This, coupled with the long economic crisis, has favoured the development of populist movements, whose main exponent is "Podemos", which threatens to break the traditional Spanish bipartisanship.
The election date of May 24 may provide clues about the importance of the populist phenomenon in Spain. "Podemos" is occupying the space for parties of the left and a favorable result in elections in May could catapult to the formation in the November legislative. Against that, the Popular Party opposes the achievements of the Government in economic matters: unemployment low, the risk premium low, creating new companies and private consumption increases. If this will be enough to maintain the status quo political in Spain we know at year end.
