Obama invited to deliver State of the Union address on Jan. 20

USPA News - U.S. House Speaker John Boehner on Friday formally invited President Barack Obama to deliver the annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress on the evening of January 20, about two weeks after the newly-elected Congress meets. In a letter to Obama, the Republican from Ohio welcomed the president to recommend measures for the consideration of the U.S. Congress, which will be ruled by Republicans for the first time in eight years.

"The new year will bring a new American Congress, and with it, the opportunity to continue our work to build a stronger economy and secure a better future for our country," he said. Boehner added: "In that spirit, it is my honor to invite you to address a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 so that you may fulfill your duty under the Constitution to report on the state of the union and recommend measures for our consideration. Your report will inform our efforts to address the people̢۪s priorities." There was no immediate word from the White House on whether Obama had accepted the invitation to deliver the address at 9 p.m. Eastern time on January 20, but he is expected to do so. This year, Obama delivered his State of the Union speech on January 28.
