U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg undergoes heart procedure

USPA News - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone a heart procedure at a Washington, D.C. hospital after experiencing discomfort while exercising, the country`s highest court said on Wednesday, adding that the judge would be discharged later this week. A coronary blockage was discovered after Ginsburg, 81, experienced "discomfort" during a routine exercise on Tuesday night and was taken to an area hospital, court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said.
She underwent a coronary catheterization procedure on Wednesday morning to place a stent in her right coronary artery. The procedure took place at MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in the nation`s capital. "She is resting comfortably and is expected to be discharged in the next 48 hours," Arberg added. The Supreme Court is made up of nine justices, of whom one is called chief justice, while the others are known as associate justices. Ginsburg, who is originally from New York City, was nominated as an associate justice by President Bill Clinton on June 1993, describing her as "one of our nation`s best judges," before her confirmation by the U.S. Senate later that year.
