Comedian Bill Cosby defends silence on sex abuse allegations
USPA News -
Legendary comedian Bill Cosby has defended his silence amid a series of sex abuse allegations that has tarnished the reputation of one of America`s most beloved comedians, telling a Florida newspaper he has no obligation to answer to "innuendos." Cosby, 77, made the comments on late Friday in a one-on-one interview with the Florida Today newspaper.
The comments came on the same night as his sold-out performance at the Maxwell C. King Center in Melbourne, Florida, where he was welcomed by an adoring audience despite the high-profile allegations against him. "I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn`t have to answer to innuendos. People should fact check. People shouldn`t have to go through that and shouldn`t answer to innuendos," Cosby told the newspaper, his first public comments that directly address the recent allegations. While Friday night`s show took place without incident, the comedian also condemned calls by a radio host who offered prizes and money to anyone who disrupted the performance. "These people are prodding and pushing people and asking people to have a frat house mentality," he said. "Now suppose someone brings a weapon or decided to do more foolishness. ... That`s not good for anyone." The high-profile allegations have prompted some companies to cancel upcoming performances by Cosby, even though the comedian has never been convicted - or charged - for any alleged wrongdoing.
