Legendary film director Mike Nichols, who won an Oscar for directing the 1967 film `The Graduate,` has died, his wife`s employer said on Thursday. He was 83. "I am writing with the very sad news that Diane̢۪s husband, the incomparable Mike Nichols, passed away suddenly on Wednesday evening," ABC News president James Goldston said in an e-mail to ABC News staff.
Nichols had been married to ABC World News anchor Diane Sawyer since April 1988. Goldston said the family plans to hold a small, private service later this week, with a memorial to be held at a later date. Nichols is survived by his wife Diane, three children and four grandchildren.
