Phuket getting ready for 28th King´s Cup Regatta

USPA NEWS - In 2011 a survey was conducted to find out which is the best sailing and regatta location in Asia. Thailand was voted the number one country for its outstanding sailing conditions. For the 28th year now, Phuket's most prestigious regatta is getting ready to set sails again.

From 29 November to December 6, the most prestigious yachting trophy, the King´s Cup is attracting boats and crews from all over the globe again. Five days of exciting racing are accompanied by five incredible parties, which are hosted by some of Phuket´s most exclusive beach-side hotel restaurants. Leading host venue is Kata Beach Resort & Spa Group.

Again this year the organizers expect around 100 different yachts, with usually over 1000 sailors from all over the world. Different classes and division promise exciting races in the crystal clear waters of the Adaman Sea; from IRC classes, Bareboat Charter and Open Charter, Sports Boats, Multihull Cruising and Racing class as well as Classic and Modern Classic and Premier classes. The Dinghy Series Race will be from November 1 to 2 and is split up in Men Optimist (boys) born in 1999 or later and Women Optimist (girls) born in 1999 or later, both on Laser Standard..

The regatta was inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. Organized by Phuket King´s Cup Regatta Organizing Committee, under Royal Patronage and under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, together with the Royal Thai Navy, the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and Phuket Province.
