USPA NEWS - On this Monday, the City Council of Pamplona ““ North of Spain - gave official notice of the decision to suspend the festival of San Fermin in July 2021. This decision was made in view of the current situation regarding the health crisis and the forecasts for the coming months, which prevent the celebration of such a multitudinous, international festival as the Sanfermines.
“We would like to thank for the interest“ that the Sanfermines arouse every year, especially among journalists, TV cameras and photo reporters who “photographing, filming or simply describing them, thus making the Sanfermines one of the best fiestas in the world,“ said to USPA News a spokesman of the City Council.
The organizers have carried out “a video that we of the City Council have made in which we emphasize that the reason behind the decision is the wellbeing of the people of Pamplona and those who visit us. The song 'Me importas tú' (I care about you), used in the video, reflects the need to prioritize right now what is really important: health and people,“ added the spokesman. And he concluded: “We will also continue throughout this year to use the hashtag #Sanfermines and #WeWillExperienceThem, because when it's all over, and when we can, we will once again experience everything that the Sanfermines mean.“
This is the second consecutive year that Sanfermines will not be held, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although the health situation is slowly improving in Spain, there are still increases in the number of infections and the herd immunity that the vaccines will grant is still a long way off. Only a third of the 32 million people needed to achieve herd immunity have so far received at least one dose of vaccine. The health authorities insist on demanding the maintenance of prevention measures: use of a mask, frequent hand washing and social distance. Precisely social distance is impossible to achieve in Pamplona in Sanfermines.
