USPA NEWS - Despite the appearance and location of the monument, a mid-19th century Neo-Gothic Jewish Synagogue, located at 172 Norfolk Street, Lower East Side, Angel Orensanz, without a doubt, was engaged in creating a new initiative to reform and restore this place forgotten by time. Some say that "this building is a replica of the Sistine Chapel in Rome and the very temple of Solomon."

Angel Orensanz , a big treasure to be discovered, is a famous sculptor and painter born in Larués, Aragón, Spain. Living in New York City since 1986, during one of his first wonderful art showings in the city, while traveling throughout the city, he discovered a remote“ magical“ spot, an abandoned and totally rundown building. The building is located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The structure could have been typically viewed and perceived as a place where old souls used to gather. Today, the building has become an inspiration for those who have been dedicated in helping other people who have been working very hard to reach their goals in life. Helping hands, selflessly, worked countless hours to turn the center into what has become today, and I quote: a "flourishing internationally active cultural center" for everyone.

I believe that the best part of Angel's accomplishments in life was when he decided, in 1978, to renovate this extravagant milestone, while keeping its architectural integrity, and create his own foundation, the“ Angel Orensanz Foundation“ which was established in 1992 “as an artistic and cultural resource open to artists, writers, thinkers and leaders from all over the world“. Anyone with strong beliefs like the ones Angel has, supporting a cause here, supporting a cause there, going all the way, would love to make connection with this versatile man and all the members of his community.

Angel's efforts for the community are well known and well recorded by the artistic people from all over the world. Being an "international icon", sometimes, it is very difficult to find him in one specific place. I have to agree with what Flannery O´Connor once said in one of his "most widely read stories", “A Good Man is Hard to Find“. It is hard to find a needle in a haystack but it is much harder to find a good man in the world; this man, my friend, is Angel Orensanz; a man with compassion and good spirit. His presentations and exhibits inspire others to "go where no man has gone before".
