The US Ambassador in Spain, Duke Buchan, last week made an official visit to Andalusia, where, among other meetings, he held meetings with US and Spanish military commanders at the Rota naval base (Cadiz) and the air base of Moron (Seville). It was the first time that the representative of the US Government visited the facilities where they serve the United States military.
The official visit of the Ambassador to Andalusia ended on Saturday with a visit to the Moron air base, where he met with the Spanish military command of the base, Colonel Carlos Perez Martinez, and with the US Marine command SPMAGTF-CR-AF and the US Air Force deployed therein, US Marine Col. Adam L. Chalkey, Commanding Officer of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa, and the US Air Force Col. Jeff Menasco, commander of the 86th Operations Group, who offered details of the collaboration between Spain and the United States in matters of security and defense in the region. A collaboration that benefits both countries, as the US military revealed.
Also last week, Ambassador Buchan visited the Rota naval base for the first time, where a committee of the United States House of Representatives had been a few days before. At the base, the diplomat met with the Spanish military command, toured the military installations and had the opportunity to visit the US destroyer USS Carney, stationed in Rota. Finally, he participated in an operational demonstration by members of the US Navy and the US Marines.
