This work of the great artist of Renaissance was re-discovered and is among of a small number of existing paintings, created by the master himself. It is the only piece, which was not in museum collections.
Leonardo da Vinci ( born on April 15h, 1452 in Anchiano, near Vinci, Florence, Italy “” died on May 2nd, 1519 in Cloux, France) is one of the greatest and renown artists in the history and, as most of the experts conclude, his work “˜Salvator Mundi´ is a rare masterpiece, which is being in private hands. It was painted circa 1500. The paint was included in the National Gallery´s 2011-2012 exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci´s surviving paintings.
Jussi Pylkkanen, Christie´s Global President announced the sale of Lot 9 in less than twenty minutes from the start of the bidding. In the main auction room at Rockefeller Center there gathered nearly one thousand art collectors, dealers, advisors, journalists, and spectators, while many thousands were watching the auction via lifestream.
