The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Buch visited the LEIBHERR WORLD TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS in Dusseldorf, Germany and met with the ITTF President Thomas Weikert and other ITTF Officials. The IOC President was accompanied by Seung Min Ryu “” a member of the IOC's Athletes' Commission and the Gold Medalist in Table Tennis Men´s Singles competition at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach visited the LEIBHERR WORLD TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS in Dusseldorf, Germany and met with the ITTF President Thomas Weikert and other ITTF Officials. The IOC President was accompanied by Seung Min Ryu “” a member of the IOC's Athletes' Commission and the Gold Medalist in Table Tennis Men´s Singles competition at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Mr. T.Bach, among others, met with young Table Tennis stars Bernadette Szocs of 22 from Romania and Kanak Jha of 17 from the USA, participating in the Worlds Championships and played some TTX with them. Mr. Thomas Bach wished the players a success in their Table Tennis careers and awarded them with memorable certificates and pins.
Among topics of discussion with ITTF Officials, there was the ITTF´s proposal to the IOC of the inclusion of Mixed Doubles Event into Summer Olympics schedule 2020 in Tokyo, as the 5th Table Tennis Event. And On the 9th of June 2017, the International Olympic Committee approved the inclusion of the Mixed Doubles event in the Tokyo´s 2020 Olympic Games program.
The visit brought a good impulse to the 54th WTTC.
