Born in Basra in 1947 he is now a leading artist of Iraq contemporary art movement. He graduated from Iraq famous Academy of Art in Baghdad in the year 1973- 1974.
In those years that academy was run by the well-known artists such as Fayeq Hasan, Ismail Fattah and many others. His colleagues were at the same time the best of the best and now they are very well ““ known worldwide. Among them was Salah Chead and Ghassan Faidhi to name few.
Mr. Kareem is a multi ““disciplinary artist. As well as establishing and working as a teacher and head of department in the fine art institute in Basra, he took many jobs to help the academic and journalist movements in that city.
He also worked in Jordan universities for long time where he gained valuable experience in mix culture arts.
Now Mr. Kareem is the leading fine artist in Basra and Iraq as a whole. He is specialized in Surrealism type of art. His painting are concentrated on documenting the valuable heritage, rich history and diversity of his city, and he feels that it is his duty to accomplish this documentation.
