TEAM USA ON THE LIEBHERR WORLD TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017 IN GERMANY

USPA NEWS - The United States of America were represented on the the LIEBHERR World Table Tennis Championships 2017 in Dusseldorf, Germany by Lily Zhang, CA; Yue Wu (Jenifer), NJ; Angela Guan, CA; Crystal Wang, WA; Kanak Jha, CA; Kunal Chordi,CA; Nick Tio; Nikhil Kumar, CA.

On the 54th World Table Tennis Championships, the USA players competed in the following categories: Men´s Singles Event (JHA, Kanak; KUMAR, Nikhil; CHODRI, Kunal), Women´s Singles Event: (ZHANG, Lily; WU, Yue; GUAN, Angela; WANG, Crystal), Men´s Doubles Event (KUMAR, Nikhil and TIO, Nicholas; CHODRI, Kunal and JHA, Kanak), Women´s Doubles Event (GUAN, Angela and WANG, Crystal; WU, Yue and  ZHANG, Lily) and Mixed Doubles Event (JHA, Kanak and WU, Yue; CHODRI, Kunal and ZHANG, Lily).

The #ITTFWTTC2017 was hosted by beautiful the Dusseldorf Messe´s ESPRIT Arena. The Opening Ceremony and Main Draws happened on the Main Football (Soccer) Stadium, while the Qualification and Main Draw Matches were conducted in Hall 5 and Hall 6 - main Arena for Championships.

In the Women's Single Division (WS), Lily Zhang reached the Round of 32 defeating MAI, H. of Vietnam “” 4:0, Winter, Sabine of Germany “” 4:3 and losing Li, Jie of Netherlands “” 1:4.

Crystal Wang, in the Round 128, lost her match to Daniela Montairo of Romania 1:4, winning game 2 with the score 12:10.
Angela Guan, in the Round 128, lost her match to Sandra Pergel of Hungary (who later on defeated Petrissa Solja of Germany) “” 1:4, winning game 1 “” 11:9.
Yue Wu, in Round 128, lost the match to Petrissa Solja “” 1:4, winning the 3rd game “” 8:3.

In Men´s Singles (MS) Championship all three USA players started in Qualification Groups.
Kumar Nichil, Nicholas Tio and Kunal Chord did don advance from their groups (7, 13 and 17 respectively) where they each took the 2nd place. Kanak Jha advanced from his Qualification group (35) by taking the 1st place and then went trough the Preliminary R64, where he won against Ahmadian, Amin of Iran “” 4:1 and through the MS Round128, where he overplayed CRISAN, Adrian of Romania in a very close match with the score 4:3. After that he met with a Swedish player Mattias Karlsson and lost the match with the score 2:4
