USPA NEWS - The original Assen track was first used for the 1925 Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) race, held on country roads through the villages of Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo, and organized by the Motorclub Assen en Omstreken. The brick-paved track had a length of 28.57 km (17.75 mi). The winner was Piet van Wijngaarden on a 500 cc Norton with an average speed of 91.4 km/h (56.8 mph).
In years afterwards the Dutch TT was held on a road circuit through de Haar, Barteldbocht (near Assen), Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen.
In 1951 the Italian Umberto Masetti took the record on a 500 cc Gilera with an average speed of 162.35 km/h (100.88 mph). In 1954, Geoff Duke of Great Britain reached 170.69 km/h (106.06 mph). The circuit remained unchanged until 1955, when a whole new circuit was built close to the site of the original, but less than a third of the length and much more like a modern road racing circuit.
The circuit was fundamentally redesigned again in 2006, becoming the so-called A-Style Assen TT Circuit. All alterations aside, only one section of the circuit is original; the finish line never moved.
On September 21, 2009 it was announced that a new chicane will be added, after a request from the A1GP organization, however A1GP was unable to start the 2009““2010 season and as a substitute the Superleague Formula replaced A1GP.

Today Valentino Rossi once again proves to be a fantastic champion Wins a fantastic race very difficult to handle because of the rain drops just a few laps from the end of the race
Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi claimed victory for Yamaha in the Dutch TT at Assen as Andrea Dovizioso took the lead in the MotoGP title race.
It was the Italian's first win since May 2016 but Ducati's Dovizioso, winner of the previous two races, was fifth to open up a four-point overall lead.
Previous leader Maverick Vinales, who began 11th on the grid, crashed his Yamaha with 14 laps remaining.
Britain's Cal Crutchlow was fourth for Honda.
Johann Zarco, in pole position for the first time, electing to pit for wet tyres (in what turned out to be a bad move), finished 14th on his Yamaha Tech3.
Rossi's 10th win at Assen - eight of which have been in MotoGP - lifted him to third in the standings, only seven points behind Dovizioso.

The 38-year-old's 115th grand prix win - and his 89th in the top class - put him in contention for a first world title since 2009. He passed Zarco to take the lead with 15 laps left and was unscathed when the Frenchman, winner of the Moto2 Championship for the past two years, clipped his rear wheel with an immediate attempt to regain the lead. "This place is always special. The track is fantastic. I'm so happy for me and my team," said Rossi. This race in Assen has again brought back all the champions in the world title struggle making the MotoGP world championship even more beautiful and spectacular. Now Valentino will try to give the best to win the tenth world title even though it will not be simple because there are so many very good pilots as " Andrea Dovizioso, Marc Marquez, Maverik Vinales to beat. Always win the best
