ARNOLD SWARZENEGGER DECORATED WITH LEGION HONNEUR BY PRESIDENT HOLLANDE

The ex-governor of California, founder of the organization R20, came along with Michelle Sabban president of R20 and Imam Chalgoumi at Elysee

Arnold Schwarzenegger had come to Paris to sign a cooperation agreement in the fight against climate dysfunction with the C40. The religious leader Imam Chalgoumi, was also guest at Elysee Palace, to discuss with Arnold Schwarzenegger the forthcoming Summit of Consciences, to be held in Cote d'Ivoire in the presence of the Pope Francois. Michele Sabban, who was the Socialist Vice-President of the Ile-de-France region, has an ecological path, as President of the R20 since 2011. The NGO, R20 was founded on 2010 by Arnold Schwarzenegger aims to preserve the sustainable development and fight against global warming. The spiritual and meditation aspect augurs new perspectives before the solutions found on the environment, to restore momentum, towards this peaceful quest, facing the stakes of the planet.

THE R20 IS AN NGO REGIONS OF CLIMATE ACTION FOUNDED BY ARNOLD SWCHARZENEGGER IN 2010 The R20 - Regions of Climate Action is a non-profit environmental organization founded in November 2010, by former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the support of the United Nations. R20 is a coalition of sub-national governments, private companies, international organizations, NGOs, and academic & financial institutions.[4] Its mission is to help sub-national governments to implement low-carbon and climate-resilient projects, as well as to share best practices in renewable energy and energy efficiency in order to build a “green economy“. This NGO, operates at the sub-national level as R20 believes sub-national governments constitute a powerful force for change and are best positioned to take action & implement green projects. The R20 approaches project implementation in three-phases: 1. Determine the regions' needs (Regions in Action) 2. Find the appropriate technology (Technologies in Action) 3. Identify the investor (Finance in Action) 4. The Founding Chair of the organization is Arnold Schwarzenegger. The current President is Michele Sabban - Vice President of Region Ile-de-France and former President of the AER (Assembly of European Regions). The R20 Executive Director is Dr. Christophe Nuttall, former Director of the Hub for Innovative Partnerships at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Strategic Advisor to the Founding Chair is Terry Tamminen, the CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and the former Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency. 5. R20 is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization also has affiliate offices in the USA (Santa Monica), Algeria (Oran), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and China (Beijing). 6. As of November 2016, R20 has 49 direct members (both national & sub-national authorities) and 134 businesses and project facilitators (academic institutions, national agencies, NGOs, private companies, UN programs and Intergovernmental organizations), and 41 investors and financial institutions. FUTURE PROJECTS OF R20 ARE SET TO IMPLEMENT THE UN SDG´s AND MEET THE GOALS OF UNFCCC Under the patronage of the Algerian Minister of Water and Environment Resources, the R20 MED team hosted study days on sustainable development and sustainable urban development. These were held on April 3rd at the wilaya of Béjaïa (East of the country) and on April 9th at the wilaya Mostaganem (West of the country).-------------------------------------------------------- The R20 is preparing from now on, the next AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT on June 20th 2017 in Vienna““ a hub for sharing best practice examples of green infrastructure projects that help businesses and policy makers implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meet the global climate protection goals set by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This inaugural conference will be hosted in Vienna under the patronage of the Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and supported by the Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern together with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who is native from Austria and his NGO R20 Regions of Climate Action. The AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT has been designed specifically to accomplish these goals and to become the premier annual meeting place for sustainable development “action heroes“.
