Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, will testify as witness for corruption

USPA NEWS - Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, will have to testify before the Court investigating alleged corruption in the conservative Popular Party, which supports the Spanish Government and Rajoy is president.

The National Court, which investigates alleged illegal funding of the conservative Popular Party, called Prime Minister Rajoy as a witness, who can testify writing or in person or by videoconference. Most likely will do so in writing. There is no date yet, but the Court wants to clarify whether the Popular Party Presidency knew of the existence of a B-box and, if so, whether it authorized it. So far, the High Court's investigation has led to the arrest of prominent leaders of the Popular Party, the last, on Wednesday, the former regional president of Madrid, Ignacio Gonzalez, accused of charging illegal commissions in connection with the supply of Water to the region of Madrid.

The Spanish Courts have been investigating for two years cases of political corruption that affect the main Spanish parties, not only the conservative Popular Party but also the Socialist Party in Andalusia and the Catalan nationalists. All cases go back to the same period in the history of Spain: the years of economic expansion. The corruption of the big parties is at the origin of the emergence of new political formations such as the centrist Citizens and the populist Podemos (We Can), who promise to end bad political practices and have won the support of a part of the traditional electorate of the big parties.
