On the occasion of the international Human Rights Day (December 10), the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) emphasizes that Germany needs a more committed human rights policy in order to effectively combat the causes of flight.
“The year 2016 was characterized by persecution and flight like no other year in this century. However, the reactions in the field of politics are disappointing. The people who are trapped in Aleppo are waiting for help, but in vain. Wars and conflicts ““ as in Yemen and the Eastern Ukraine ““are escalating, while war crimes and crimes against humanity tend to go unpunished if the persecuting state is influential enough or able to put political pressure on the European Union,“ the STP criticizes. “The federal government had wholeheartedly announced measures to resolve the causes of flight, but is now cooperating with persecuting states such as Sudan.
In order to prevent refugees from reaching Europe ““ instead of showing commitment to human rights and to try and put an end to the civil war.“
The ongoing armed conflicts in the Arab world and Africa ““ in which weapons from Germany play an important role ““ are leading to further attacks on the civilian population and to migration flows.
